IRONER - Potential for innovative and sustainable recycling of steel
Within the framework of the IRONER project, open questions were identified and the necessary innovations for increased steel recycling were developed. The aim was to investigate the feasibility of designing and testing a sleeping bag for ISS. The methodology used included the fabrication of a prototype from material used on ISS such as Nomex-based textiles. The development of the sleeping bag involved a total of three design iterations based on feedback from European astronauts.

In the project IceDrip the rather promising concept of a discontinuous, electro-thermal de-icer is being investigated. The main aim of the present project is to significantly increase the already existing energetic advantages of the discontinuous de-icer by means of surface-active coatings, in order to achieve a performance range which would make the system suitable for general aviation aircraft, as well as smaller aircraft, which are equipped as large aircraft.

InSite - Monitoring and evaluation of innovative demonstration buildings
In the "Stadt der Zukunft" and "Smart City Initiative" programmes, a large number of demonstration projects have been implemented in recent years. To be able to evaluate the developed innovations in a uniform and comparable form and to make the knowledge gained accessible to implementers, InSite subjects 10 selected objects from these programmes to energy and ecological monitoring as well as sociological surveys over a period of 24 months. The interpreted results are publicly available as a published study and as an interactive online platform.
