Repair & Do-It-Yourself Urbanism (R&DIY-U)
The project follows the aim to analyze and to strengthen the transformative potential of Repair & Do-It-Yourself Urbanism with regard to a fundamental change of the existing poor sustainable handling of commodities in selected urban districts, their infrastructures and dominant business and private household practices into resilient areas.
Repair initiatives in Europe: innovations, business models, recommendations. Experiences from the PREPARE network
The European Union and many countries in Europe have begun to take individual measures to-wards “increasing the repair rate” here and there. With the help of surveys and interviews, which were carried out with the support of contacts provided by the “PREPARE” network, which has ex-isted for almost 30 years, this work collects information about such measures in other European countries - especially regarding “best practice examples” and “lessons learned” – and analyzes their transferability to Austria.
Rerex - Environmentally friendly high-tech metal processing
The West still has a lot to learn about processing rare earth elements. New methods set out to remedy this - and save resources, too.
Resonance - Electric Field Sensors
The analysis of the electric field sensors on board the satellites of the Russian mission Resonance, which will be launched in the next decade, is the focus of this project. The aim of this mission is the investigation of wave-particle interactions and plasma dynamics in the inner magnetosphere of Earth, with the focus on phenomena occurring along the same magnetic field line and within the very same flux tube of the Earth's magnetic field. Amongst a variety of instruments and probes, several low- and high frequency electric and magnetic sensors will be on-board.
ResourceRevival - District development from industry site to resource neutrality in Möllersdorf
The reuse of building elements is a much-discussed topic, but a truly circular district encompasses much more. Through interdisciplinary cooperation as part of a co-creative concept development at the Werk Möllersdorf, previously separately considered aspects of the circular economy are combined, symbioses between demand and availability of materials, energy, rainwater and grey water are identified and their circularity is maximized.
RobPerMot - Robot embodied persuasion and motivation for sport, post rehabilitation and work routines
While collaborative robot systems are already successfully used in industrial manufacturing, the social qualities of human-robot interaction in private life, sports or at work are not yet widely exploited. The RobPerMot project aims to investigate a potential robot-based implementation of persuasion and coaching strategies (e.g., reward systems) in various contexts.
R²RM - Precious raw materials
A new method recovers precious materials such as niobium or tantalum for high-tech applications. This reduces Austria’s dependency on raw materials.
S1S2Crops
Exploring the Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 Data Cubes for Supporting Crop Classification with EODC
SALOTTE - Solar Array Drive Mechanism (SADM) – Long Term Testing Chamber
"SALOTTE" is the design name for a test equipment to test components used for solar array drive mechanisms. The ASAP-project aims at the development of such a facility.
SANOWA - Satellite Basend Emergency Call System for Lumberjacks
The objective of the project SANOWA (Satellite based emergency call system for lumberjacks) is the development of a demonstrator that will increase the safety of lumberjacks and facilitate rescue operations in case of an accident. Satellite navigation, autonomous sensors, wireless communication, and geoinformation systems are integrated in the demonstrator.
SAR-X Environ - Environmental Mapping Applications Using TerraSAR-X
The goals of this project were the improvement of existing X-band scattering models and the development of environmental mapping applications for TerraSAR X data in Austria and in potential export markets.
SARISTU - Smart Intelligent Aircraft Structures
The concept of Smart Intelligent Aircraft Structures offers significant improvements in aircraft total weight, manufacturing cost and, above all, operational cost by an integration of system tasks into the load carrying structure. The project focuses on integration activities in the three distinct technological areas airfoil morphing, self-sensing and multifunctional structures through self-healing and the use of nanoreinforced resins.
SATFARM-Services
New indicators to remotely track climate-smart agricultural practices: Farm services for farmers and policy makers
SATIN
Satellite-based short range weather prediction with special emphasize on high impact events
SATSKI - Sensor-based GPS as a tool to analyse the performance of professional ski racers
The objective is an analysis tool that provides the Austrian Ski Federation with the possibility to increase the performance of its racers, but also to study the physical robustness of the human body, and take counteractive measures if necessary.
SCI_BIM - Scanning and data capturing for Integrated Resources and Energy Assessment using Building Information Modelling
The aim of the project is to increase the resources- and energy efficiency through coupling of various digital technologies and methods for data capturing (geometry and materials composition) and modelling (as-built BIM), as well as through gamification.
SC_micro-quarters – Planning and modernisation of smart city quarters with a view to energy optimisation and a high quality of life
The SC_micro-quarters project demonstrates possibilities for urban planning and urban quarter development with a view to creating a path to a low carbon city with a high quality of life and good resilience, while taking into account existing and proposed buildings, infrastructures and uses. The central element is the modelling of urban structures at micro-quarter level.
