OEGNOS - Austrian EGNOS Data Server – Business Plan

Consequently the Austrian EGNOS data server (OEGNOS) shall provide an EGNOS data stream using authenticated terrestrial communication means and integrate additional local and regional meteorological information (ionospheric and tropospheric information) to provide higher position accuracy and continuous service availability. Specialised hardware or software shall be avoided, instead, standardized protocols shall be used in order to favour market penetration.

OEKOPLUS-KOMPLEX - Analysis of the technical, economical and ecological preconditions for the establishment and utilisation of plus-energy-buildings and building assemblies

The evolution of the low energy house and the passive house standards to the plus energy standard results in a clear reduction of green house gas emissions as well as the primary energy input. The goal of the project was the determination of the technical, ecological and economic basic conditions for the construction and the use of "plus-energy-buildings" in order to finally realize them.

OMI-ASAP - Validaton of Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) Ground UV Products

Good quality UV maps are only achievable by using satellite information and satellite data. The present project deals with the validation of the UV products retrieved by the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) instrument on board of NASA/EOS AURA satellite. The project is closely connected to the ESA project (ID 2945) “Validation of OMI products over Europe with ground-based UV instruments”.

OMOSA - Open Modular/Open Source Avionics Architecture for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems

OMOSA is researching the system architectures of avionics for small unmanned aerial vehicles, following the Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) approach. By using commercial, modular hardware and open source software, aircraft electronics are to be developed. These can be used for flight control, as a navigation system, and as a C2 link. For this purpose, aircraft antennas integrated into the fuselage will also be included. The project results will be validated via a measurement campaign using a rotorcraft.

ONE-SAT-ILS - One Satellite Geolocation System

The ONE-SAT-ILS project aimed to select one or two of the discussed solutions with the potential for implementation in a product. Potential was defined to mean technical feasibility in terms of effort (time and money) but also in terms of accuracy and performance. Furthermore, the chosen solutions were implemented in a prototype in order to evaluate the potential described above. The results obtained from ONE-SAT-ILS will be integrated in the Siemens ILS system in a subsequent project.

OPEN HEAT GRID - Open Heat Grids in urban hybrid systems

The primary research topic of OPEN HEAT GRID was to investigate the possibilities of enforcing the feed-in of industrial waste heat into existing district heating networks. The project results show that excess heat is not for free: despite minimal variable costs, the investment costs need to satisfy usual payback periods. The analysis shows that there is no need for a regulation in the sense of a feed-in obligation or market liberalization. However, from an economic point of view, information asymmetries exist, which may lead to irrational decisions.

OPEN LIVING PLUS - building structures and utilization options with high social functionality and plusEnergie-standard for rural regions

In small to medium sized communities in rural Regions there is a high demand for sustainable building and space for innovative living facilities, to satisfy the requirements of current and coming life designs. The project’s intentions were to provide social scientific groundwork, develop building structures and utilization options of high social functionality and to transfer knowledge to decision makers in communities and regional authorities.

OPENing Re-Use – Optimal planning decisions in the re-use sector

In an operational context, companies in the circular economy are faced daily with the question of whether a used product should be repaired, remanufactured, refurbished or recycled. The decision on what to do with used products is fraught with a great deal of uncertainty and must be made on a case-by-case basis - product-individually and depending on factors such as brand, condition, age, demand or recycling possibilities. As part of the "OPENing Re-Use" project, a business planning tool is being developed to support companies in their re-use planning, thereby increasing the efficiency of re-use processes and making re-use activities even more competitive with the purchase of new products.
