Abkommensunfälle mit Personenschaden sind im ASFiNAG-Netz die zweithäufigste Unfallart. Fahrzeugrückhaltesysteme (FRS) spielen dabei vor allem die Unfallschwere betreffend eine wichtige Rolle. Deshalb wurde eine Wirksamkeitsanalyse von FRS in Österreich durchgeführt, sodass der/die StraßenerhalterIn seinen Ressourceneinsatz hinsichtlich Infrastrukturkosten optimieren und gleichzeitig einen Beitrag zur Verkehrssicherheit leisten kann. In diesem Projekt werden unbedenklichere Ersatzprodukte für Kreosot auf ihre Gebrauchstauglichkeit für die Imprägnierung von Buchenschwellen erforscht. Die dabei geforderten Eigenschaften orientieren sich an den hohen Ansprüchen der Kreosot-imprägnierten Bahnschwelle: gute biologische Wirksamkeit, lange Nutzungsdauer, keine Korrosionswirkung, geringe elektrische Leitfähigkeit sowie hohe Beständigkeit gegenüber Beanspruchungen.
