The aim is to analyse the impact of measures in a structured manner and to make the transition to climate neutrality more efficient.
Thannhausen 2.0 - Thannhausen energy district: a role model and testbed for a renewable energy supply for neighbourhoods
Evaluation and testing of different energy distribution approaches in a neighbourhood using direct lines, storage or new legal options through the ElWG (Electricity Industry Act). The project builds on the existing direct line system in Thannhausen and will test different use cases for the (climate-neutral) supply of neighbourhoods there.
The Use of wind energy in skiing regions - Evaluation of the consume of electricity and dissemination of the results of the analysis
Main goals of the project are the analysis of the location Salzstiegl concerning the coverage of their own electricity needs with an already existent windmill as well as a following dissemination of the outcome of the analysis in form of a workshop for all ski lift carriers of Austria.
The sustainable hospital. Dissemination.
Following two successful "Fabrik der Zukunft" projects on the theme of sustainable hospitals ("Feasibility study" 2004-2005 and "Testing in a pilot hospital" 2006-2008) the results and key findings were disseminated by a diversified dissemination strategy. The project was based on an intensive and successful more than four-year cross-disciplinary cooperation involving the pilot hospital (SMZ Otto Wagner Spital), the Viennese Hospital Association, the Immanuel Diakonie Group (Berlin) and an interdisciplinary team of researchers.
TheSIS - Thermal renovation with internal insulation systems - investigation and development of moisture-proof solutions
Development of innovative solutions for the retrofit of the building envelope with internal insulation with a focus on the hygrothermal optimization of a moisture-adaptive vapor retarder in form of a paint coating. As a result, the moisture hazard related to the implementation of internal insulation systems is reduced and the energetic, comfort-related and economic advantages are made available.
ThermEcoFlow: Innovative technologies and methods for indoor air comfort and energy optimisation in thermal spa buildings
ThermEcoFlow aims to optimize the energy consumption of thermal spas facilities through improved simulation models and AI-supported control systems. By precisely modelling airflow, humidity loads, and evaporation, combined with AI-driven regulation, the project seeks to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions in the long term while enhancing indoor comfort for visitors.
Thermal detection of cracks on glowing wire during the process of rolling with regard to reduction of rejections
Developing a non-destructive and fully automated testing to detect surface cracks and laps in rolled wires during the production at temperature values of 800-1000°C and at a material speed of 30-40 m/s, with regard to reduction of rejections.
To Renovate with Common Sense - Building of Tomorrow - A Film Project
A professional documentary film and detailed construction-documentation upon the subject of innovative thermal renovation of matured apartment houses and tenement blocks in Austria.
Town Hall District 2040
A preparatory step for a demonstration project that develops a well-founded and integrated planning basis. It aims to interconnect the energy system, buildings, open spaces, and social structures in order to create a climate-resilient and multifunctional urban quarter.
Transform:Leoben2040 - Preparation of a demonstration project for the climate-neutral development of the Fichtlplatz–Kärntnerstraße district
The exploratory project Transform:LEoben2040 develops a transferable transformation concept for the municipal residential district Fichtlplatz–Kärntnerstraße in Leoben. By developing an integrated district energy system as well as new financing and operational models, the project aims to identify climate-neutral and economically viable solutions for transforming existing urban neighborhoods. The results will provide the basis for a subsequent demonstration phase and serve as a transferable model for other pioneer small cities.
Tulln Climate Neutral City 2040 (Tulln2040)
The core of the project is the development of a systemic strategy at a city-wide level that shows how the city of Tulln will achieve climate neutrality by 2040.
Twin2Share - Digital twins for energy optimization in energy communities (ECs)
Digital twins to support energy communities over their life cycle. The project focuses on optimizing energy efficiency and costs, dynamic load management and the integration of users to promote sustainable energy use and the stabilization of the electricity grid.
TwinLight - BIM-based implementation of daylight and artificial lighting controls
A merging of trade-specific systems in an integral context, a faster applicability of new ICT-technologies, an automation of on-site commissioning of control systems and a mapping of energy data in the digital twin are to be made possible by means of transferring the control logic into the digital building model and via an open bidirectional system architecture (BIM2Control and Control2BIM).
U-Bahn goes circular - Increasing the Circular Economy in the Civil Engineering Works of Vienna’s Subway Lines
The objective is to develop and pilot strategies for the reuse and material recovery of excavated materials in order to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, landfill volumes, and the use of primary raw materials. To this end, innovative analytical methods, digital tools, new business models, and the legal frameworks at the interface between construction and waste legislation are addressed. The results are intended to serve as the basis for a subsequent real-world laboratory and to enable scalable processes for future infrastructure projects. In doing so, the project makes a tangible contribution to climate neutrality, resource conservation, and sustainable procurement in public construction.
UPTextIL - Upcycling cellulose from used textiles into high-strength filaments using spinning technology in ionic liquids
The aim of the project is to develop a process for spinning cellulose from used textiles using ionic liquids, to analyze potential impurities in this recycling material stream, and to develop strategies for their removal or avoidance during the spinning process. The project aims to lay the foundations for closing the material cycle of cellulose from used textiles.
Update Prunerstraße - Demonstrative building Prunerstraße 5: climate-neutral transformation of a space programme and an existing building
Together with the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG), the University of Art Linz (KUL) aims to develop Prunerstraße 5 into a landmark project that meets the socially relevant demands of a university and at the same time sets progressive standards in the requirements determination, transformation, and sustainable development of existing buildings.
