Climate change and the use of scarce resources are among the major challenges confronting society today, and are therefore a guiding principle of the Federal government's research strategy.
The cities of the future are to become Smart Cities. Intelligent energy systems represent a secure and efficient supply of energy which is based on renewable energy sources. New, highly efficient manufacturing processes supply sustainable products and services.
The networking of knowledge and the possibility to create something new with new partners to solve these problems offers high potential. In the energy and environmental sector, precisely such problem-oriented approach and building on existing knowledge and research results can help to jointly master the grand challenges of society in this area – primarily the climate change, scarcity of natural resources, and the transformation of the energy system – and at the same time to secure future technology markets.
