Cooperation between science and economy

The cooperation between universities and enterprises has improved considerably in the last few years. Interventions of the research and technology policy, for example the centres of excellence, but also the Bridge programme lines, have made their contributions.

With regard to the cooperation intensity of science and economy, Austria holds a top position today in international comparisons. The pursued structural improvement of the Austrian economy towards an increased knowledge and research intensity, and overall more innovation, requires the broadening and better use of the research basis, facilitating the access of SME to the research, and accelerating the application of research and development results.

To ensure the successful transfer of knowledge into economic application, it is necessary to develop corresponding entrepreneurial and content-related expertise, both within the enterprises and on the research side, i.e. an innovation and knowledge management with extensive participation.

With the open4innovation platform, the BMK wants to help taking down barriers and fears of the unknown of companies, in particular SME, for cooperation between science and research, and facilitate the access of innovative companies to external resources.
