Not only natural disasters and threats arising from terrorist acts, but also the increasing networking of infrastructures present new challenges to our society. It is important to protect intelligent systems from attacks and the personal data of citizens from unauthorised access. This is about striving for security in a rapidly changing environment.
Within the meaning of Smart Security, a concept is needed that provides bespoke innovative security solutions that are required at that moment. It is of particular importance that new technologies also gain social acceptance and are accepted by the citizens.
The Austrian security research uses the KIRAS programme to pursue exactly this Smart Security approach. With the mandatory involvement of the end users of new security technologies, it is ensured already during the project phase that the research is based on requirements and demands. In addition, the focus of KIRAS is placed on responsible technology development, with the integrative involvement of humanistic, social and cultural expertise.
Innovative concepts for crisis and disaster management, new technologies for protecting our infrastructures, or security in smart cities are only some examples of successful KIRAS innovations. In addition, the programme also supports Austria's security industry in maintaining its competitiveness and generating added value.
